Colors that I have found to be safe to use with this tradition are as follows (all are Netscape-safe colors as well):

Other safe sets are the Absinthe Fauvism set linked to from the first page of this series, and the set linked to here. I would not advise trying anything that is not in Moyra's "Textures & Abstracts" sets, and I have even screened out a good deal of those. But the second she throws up another texture/abstract set, I will screen it for possible usefulness. Standards are high here.
The "fractal" site-link graphic on both these pages is also quite usable, as is this graphic and whatever other site-link graphics come with the sets in question:
